charities
* peta – as a vegan i am committed to animal rights, speaking up for those that do not have a voice. animal rights issues are also environmental issues. did you know that the single worst contributor to global warming is the methane that comes from cows – i.e. their farts! this is a little campaign i did with peta
* farm sanctuary - this wonderful organization rescues factory farm animals who have been injured or left to die. i recently gave a speech for their annual walk for farm animals. read it here.
* nextaid – i am working closely with nextaid, an organization that builds houses and responds to the needs of the AIDS orphan pandemic in africa. we will be doing a benefit concert in 2009 so keep checking and see you there!
* big brothers big sisters – big brothers/big sisters pairs up people with inner-city children. i have been a big sister to my little sister Iyana for about 7 years. i cannot stress enough how life-changing this has been for the both of us. first of all, she teaches me all the cool slang on the streets! but seriously, we enrich each other’s lives on such a deep level. i think charity should be about hands-on experience, not just about throwing money at a problem.
* int’l campaign to free tibet – they promote human rights & democratic freedoms for the people of tibet. did you ever notice the dalai lama is always smiling? i want to be like that dude.

* children international – another child I am sending money to monthly. i’ve got their pictures on my fridge next to the one of me and my dad and his jewfro from the 70’s.
